In Germany, our biochemist researches the processes of aging and longevity

From June 16 to July 15, a scientist of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of Precarpathian University Olha Strilbytska was at the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg (Germany). The visit was carried out as part of the implementation of a joint scientific project with Professor Nikola Yovino (chromatin regulation department of the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics), https://www.ie-freiburg.mpg.de/iovino).

The topic of the project «Regulation of gene expression to support healthy aging and longevity». This project is a continuation of many years of research by the scientific group in which Olha Strilbytska works and whose head is the associate professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology Oleh Lushchak. The project concerns the study of epigenetic mechanisms of fruit fly life span and metabolism regulation.

For a month, our scientist worked in the laboratory of Professor Yovino, studying new methods of researching epigenetic changes in the animal body. To implement the project, she received a three-year grant under the EIRENE Max Planck-Ukraine Cooperation & Mobility Grant program from Max Planck Society (https://ukrainet.eu/2022/05/06/mps-ukraine/).
